Amazonite Stone Description

Amazonite: The Stone of Hope

Rough and polished pieces of Amazonite

A selection of rough and polished Amazonite specimens.

Amazonite, also known as Amazon stone, is a captivating tectosilicate mineral belonging to the feldspar group, specifically the microcline variety. Its distinctive green to bluish-green hue, often punctuated by white or pale yellow streaks of albite, makes it a highly sought-after gemstone for jewelry and ornamental purposes. The color is thought to be due to trace amounts of lead within the crystal lattice.

While its name suggests an origin in the Amazon River basin, this is a misnomer. Though it was named after the Amazon River, it is not found there. High-quality specimens are found in various locations worldwide, including Brazil, Russia (particularly the Kola Peninsula), Madagascar, Namibia, Canada, and the United States (Colorado and Virginia).
